dusk city rendition

the unintended holiday break finally allowed me to make something of my own.
due to my increasing interest in digital matte paintings, decided to put a little scenery together.
the most challenging part of this was to let my hand lose and allow myself to make mistakes.
for a while i struggled to draw straight lines in photoshop but eventually i forced myself to just enjoy making the picture. that's when i felt things come together.
a little step but it's okay for fact i rarely do this kind of things and am rather submerged in the 3d world most of the time.
i meant to depict something post apocalyptic. and of course with a subtle guilty conscious since hurricane sandy left significant damage to our friends and co-workers homes.
now it looks rather like shanty town.
i hope to continue the momentum and produce more digital paintings like this down the line.
hopefully without being tied down by hurricane next time.

bad girls

just as much as super bowl to me is synonym for fanatic, passion, craze, patriotism, and over hype,
ironically it turned out that it best describes, represents america as a nation.
again with the media driven craze, we are faced with controversy- m.i.a. flips bird during halftime show.
while super bowl controversy is becoming a bit of cliche, i thank the 'incident' as it brought my attention to the talented director name romain gavras- son of the oscar winning greek director constantin costa gavras.
romain is responsible for vision behind another m.i.a.'s controversial music video 'born free' which i cannot say is my cup of tea but couldn't help but to recognize the genius behind.

m.i.a.'s latest music video 'bad girls'- also directed by romain caught my attention with its eclectic flavor.
okay. forget controversy, propaganda, hidden messages, political side of things as i don't understand a thing about those matters.
i find this video fresh and gorgeous. it is- a candy coated visual pleasure.
cinematography, the fashion, beautifully brown skinned m.i.a. and her hair is good on the eyes.
horse riding arab in desert is packed with emotion with its time and vibe different from of rest of the video.
make fun of me when i say i wanted to cry moment i encountered this beautifully crafted video but i'm still thankful to super bowl controversy.

On a side note, Pete Candeland is one of the most talented creative directors I ever worked with-
It would be my honor to work with him again, hopefully in near future!

3D model of legendary game character

something I started to work on since last year december for giga convention at art institute of technology in DC. my initial goal was to build a character completely from scratch using the powerful zsphere and zsketch available in the new zbrush 3.5- however, after much struggle, i decided that i should go back to the trasitional method- which is to import the lowrez basemesh from other 3d application.
also i intended to finish the texturing and rendering straight out of zbrush but i became quickly frustrated at the limitations and my lack of knowledge in that aspect of program and finally have decided to do the rest in the softimage. however, transfering the meshes from zbrush and xsi was not as easy breezy as one would have thought. after much obtimization on the meshes, i finally bought the geometry count to manageable size and am ready to rock and roll in my 3d application of choice.
here's the work in progress render of character in softimage.

this piece of animation made me stop breathing. truly breathtaking imagery done with amazingly meticulous measure. it is fulfilling both visually and emotionally. thank you for the inspiration.
just please don't tell me you are fresh graduate from college.

control of nature

an illustration done for "control of nature" challenge at it's art magazine dot com.
this was sort of my attempt to mimic the style of russian illustrator vania zouravliov or the type of illustrations you see in your biology text book. the sketch took about 3 weeks to complete on and off. it took a while mainly because i was making little dots with ink pen to shade and to add the details. the version here has been duplicated and symmetrized in photoshop. the image is much abstract but i like it better than the original for the weirdness of it.

bjork wanderlust music video

the music video that took painfully nightmarish 9months to complete.
directed by encyclopediapictura and post produced at uvph.
main obstacle or challenge in this project for us was to figure out how to generate "hair water"
tim marinov came up with this awesome hair rig which we imported into different scenes and tweak to get the look. we used xsi 6.5 to render the hair water.

watch the video

scylla

mythical monster created for clash of gof show for history channel. modeled in xsi, detailed, and textured in zbrush. rendered in mental ray.

female assassin

an illustration project done for cgtalk online challenge.
a young female assassin waiting for the appropriate moment
but startled when she realized she's been spied.
